written words need spoken words.

When we read a text, we are trying to understand it. Comprehending a text consists of turning written words into spoken words by silently vocalizing them to ourselves, which echoes the meaning. In other words, it is only when converted to the world of sound, loud or silent, thus verbalized, that written documents yield their meanings.

In reading, we internalize written words by translating them into spoken words, and the meaning ensues. Written words wait for sounds in order to deliver their meaning. Written words cannot deliver without spoken words.

Thus, the more we process spoken words, the more we interpret what we hear, and the more we feel involved in the world.

[at least I absolutely love these quotes I am reading while researching, right? :) ]

  1. Isn't language such an AMAZING thing that God created??

I, too, love it when the things we research become so inspiring to us! It makes all of the effort totally worth it! ....ok, so maybe I'm a nerd... :)
